Veer Zaara grossed Rs 98 crore worldwide in its original run; a huge hit
Based on an estimated budget of Rs 23 crore, the much-hyped romantic-drama grossed over Rs 98 crore at the worldwide box office and emerged as a big grosser. The Shah Rukh Khan starrer film took an opening of Rs 2.50 crore and collected Rs 9.75 crore nett in its opening weekend. The film dominated the box office in India with an impressive collection of Rs 41.75 crore (total Rs 60.50 crore) and attained super-hit status.
Apart from performing brilliantly at the Indian box office, it also did great business in overseas markets. The film grossed over USD 8.2 million from international territories and took its lifetime box office collection to Rs 98 crore globally in its original theatrical run. Veer Zaara recorded around 1.3 crore viewership during its release year, which is a huge thing and is still a dream for many people.
The film created several records and set new standards by becoming the highest-grossing Indian film of 2004. It also received several awards including the National Film Award.
Veer Zaara’s re-release is running successfully overseas
Produced by Yash Raj Films, Veer Zaara is ranked among the greatest romantic dramas of Indian cinema. The film was re-released several times, the most significant domestic re-release being in September 2024 when it successfully grossed over Rs 100 crore.
With the success of its domestic re-runs, the makers decided to try it in international locations as well. Marking the 20th anniversary of its release, Veer Zaara is currently screening in theaters in overseas territories.
