Singapore Airlines has announced compensation of up to $25,000 to passengers following the death of a passenger due to a malfunction on board the plane.
Singapore Airlines is offering compensation to passengers injured in a violent storm on board London-to-Singapore flight SQ321 last month, in which one passenger died. Passengers with minor injuries will receive $10,000, while those seriously injured will receive an initial $25,000 upfront payment.
Singapore Airlines (SIA) has announced compensation and refunds for passengers affected by the major malfunction on board flight SQ321 from London to Singapore last month.
SIA has announced an advance payment of $10,000 for passengers with minor injuries and $25,000 for those who are seriously injured and require long-term medical care.
Additionally, SIA will provide full refund of airfare to all passengers who travelled on SQ321 on May 20, including those who were not injured.
“SIA can confirm that we have sent a compensation offer to passengers on 10 June 2024,” Singapore Airlines said in a Facebook post.
Incident of severe unrest on 21 May As a result, one person died and several people were injured.
The widebody Boeing 777-300ER aircraft carrying 211 passengers and 18 crew members had to make an emergency landing at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport due to extreme turbulence.
Passengers and crew members were thrown violently around the cabin due to unrest.
“Passengers with minor injuries will be given a compensation of $10,000. While passengers with serious injuries, who will require long-term medical care, will be given an advance payment of $25,000 to meet immediate needs. This will be offered to passengers an advance payment of $25,000 to meet immediate needs. The airline said compensation for the delayed flight would be provided in accordance with EU or UK rules.
Upon arrival in Bangkok, all passengers were given S$1,000 for immediate expenses.
SIA has also committed to bear the medical expenses of the injured passengers and arrange travel to Bangkok for their family members if required.
However, there has been no mention of compensation for the 18 crew members on board Flight SQ321.
