Samantha Ruth Prabhu, who recently enthralled the audience with her performance in the Raj & DK web series, Citadel Honey Bunny, joined Business Today’s Most Powerful Women program for a session titled The Star and the Start-up: Fame, Fans Joined. Luck. In the session, she discussed the series, her journey as an entrepreneur and also shared that she will always be an actress and takes decisions from an actor’s perspective.
Honey bunny upon exiting the stronghold at the beginning
I didn’t need convincing, but my health conditions prevented me from doing it… I didn’t think I could do it because it’s a serious condition. But, they (Raj and DK) didn’t take ‘no’ for an answer and I’m glad they didn’t.
On whether she just wants to be associated with the action
I am ready for any challenge. It was a challenge that really motivated me. This is usually a playground for male actors and all for boys, but it was fun to play.
On your journey as an entrepreneur
I will always be an actor and will take decisions from the perspective of being an actor. The decision to become an entrepreneur sounds like a great storyline – one world is about being present in the moment and the other world is looking to the future. This is a wonderful duality. To be at this point in my life is intense and extremely exciting. I think one compliments the other.
Being in front of the camera has prepared me to be an entrepreneur because you are put in this position as an actor – playing a new role, forced to adapt, move and grow and always remain in character. stay. So, I think these are some of the things you learn in business, and you use that same adaptability, flexibility and hunger. I think it was a natural transition to invest in businesses that really mean a lot to me.
on being authentic
I think people are looking for authenticity, and they need to see that and any brand I associate with has to reflect who I really am. It has to be genuine and I have to be it 100 percent, so I think when people trust me, it means to the brands I’ve ventured into and that partnership needs to be authentic.
When I talk about authenticity, it needs to translate into everything I do. I feel very responsible while choosing roles and I feel it is important to have proper representation of women in society today. Often, there is a misrepresentation of women in films, as most of the women’s roles in these films are defined by the male actor or male protagonist, and not by what is actually a woman’s journey and her strengths and weaknesses. She is defined mostly by her relationships, not her experiences. I have made a conscious decision to choose roles that represent women, as well as the brands I represent.
