Manisha Koirala opens up about her battle with cancer: I thought I was going to die
In a recent interview with ANI, Manisha Koirala shared her harrowing experience of battling late-stage ovarian cancer and how it changed her outlook on life and career.

Manisha Koirala recently reflected on her journey with cancer, sharing the shock of her diagnosis and the challenges she faced.
“I was diagnosed in 2012, and I had no idea it was late-stage ovarian cancer,” she said in an interview. ANI,
Recalling her initial reaction, she shared, “I was very frightened, obviously, like everyone else, extremely. We were at Jaslok hospital. There too, when the doctors came, two, three doctors, top doctors, and I told them, I thought I was going to die and I thought this was the end of me.”
Discussing her decision to get treatment in the United States, Manisha said, “We knew some two, three known people, celebrities, we knew that they had gone to New York and got treatment. And my grandfather also went to Sloan. Went to Kettering and got treatment.”
During his five to six months in New York, he underwent a successful 11-hour operation and responded well to chemotherapy. He said his mother played a comforting role, bringing a Rudraksha rosary blessed by Mahamrityunjaya from Nepal, which she handed over to the doctor. “So somehow, I don’t know how he (the surgeon) kept it, but he managed to keep it to himself, and after an 11-hour operation, he said it Garland It worked wonders,” Manisha recalled.
Manisha also expressed her gratitude to her oncologist Dr. Vicky Makkar, whom she described as “half Punjabi and American, Punjabi American” and someone who gave her hope in her most challenging moments.
“I remember there were times when I would break down and all I could see was darkness… despair, pain and fear. And she was the one who kept saying, ‘Manisha, you’re doing well. You know, yours’ ”The medicine is working on you,” she said.
Reflecting on her recovery, Manisha reveals how surviving cancer changed her approach to her career. “I knew one thing, if I get a second chance in life, I have to go and settle the score because life has given me so much. And I felt that I had ruined everything. So I Wanted to correct the mistake.” He shared. “I felt responsible for my work… because I had a lot of fans whom I had disappointed by making bad films.”
His latest project Heeramandi became an opportunity to fulfill that commitment to him and his audience. She said, “I prayed that if I get a second chance, I really wanted to give my best and not let my fans down. So I felt Heeramandi was for me. I really tried my best. Did.”
Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi, released on Netflix on May 1. Apart from Manisha, the series also stars Aditi Rao Hydari, Shekhar Suman, Richa Chadha, Sanjeeda Sheikh and many others. Hiramandi was well received by the audience.
