Fatima Sana Shaikh’s role as Geeta Phogat in Aamir Khan’s biographical sports drama film Dangal made her a household name. By now the audience has come to know how much hard work the entire cast has put in to play the characters in the film well. But do you know that the young actress suffered from epilepsy during the shooting?
During an interview with Filmfare, Fatima Sana Shaikh revealed about suffering from epilepsy. He said that he came to know about it during the shooting of Dangal. At first, she was in denial and unwilling to accept that she had a neurological disorder. For this reason he did not take any medicine. “I was afraid I would have an incident in front of people,” she said, noting that epilepsy comes with a lot of stigma.
The Dhak Dhak actress further added, “I used to have seizures once or twice a week, and the anxiety before the events was very high.” Talking more about the condition, he said that flashing lights are a known trigger for epilepsy, although they do not always cause seizures. So, she got scared and eventually, she stopped attending events and screenings. But he eventually decided to inform the paparazzi about my situation, who respected it and were also considerate. The shutterbugs were careful not to use flashlights when he was around. He expressed gratitude towards the media, saying, “Sometimes, my colleagues don’t understand, but the paparazzi do.”
Speaking to the publication, Fatima said that there are days when she is not able to shoot. Sometimes shoots are canceled due to her episodes, and there are days when her migraines are so severe that she becomes unable to work. Having said that, she admitted that since she was inconsistent with her medication, she would have more seizures. “I didn’t want to take drugs; I was not only fighting people, but also fighting drugs. I felt I didn’t need them to live a normal life,” reveals the actress.
