Chocolate, the universal language of indulgence, has an uncanny ability to delight the mind with its velvety richness and beguiling aroma. It is the ultimate comfort food, a guilty pleasure that transcends age, culture and occasion. Yet, for the discerning connoisseur, settling for anything less than premium quality is simply unacceptable. While commercial chocolates saturate the market, often falling short in taste and texture, enjoying imported premium chocolates can sometimes feel like a luxury beyond reach. Enter Mozimo for chocolate lovers seeking the perfect balance of quality and affordability.
What is Mozimo chocolate?
Mozimo is not just a typical chocolate shop; it is an innovative café and chocolate experience centre that redefines the culinary landscape of Chandigarh. Since its launch in late 2023 by Amritanshu Agarwal and Priyanka Gupta (of Hops & Grains and The Great Bear fame), Mozimo has proudly made a name for itself as India’s pioneer of premier European-crafted bean-to-bar artisanal chocolate. Every creation at Mozimo is a carefully crafted masterpiece, offering an immersive journey into a world of decadence and luxury. During my visit, I had the pleasure of experiencing first-hand the richness and freshness of Mozimo’s creations. A visit to Mozimo was a feast for the senses, a unique chocolate experience unlike any other.
Mojimo is the latest sensation in Chandigarh:
Mozimo has quickly become a talking point in Chandigarh. The city is my hometown and a lot of my family and friends still live there. As soon as I mentioned Mozimo, they already knew about it. Not just that, they also told me that it is the hottest new place for dessert lovers. Naturally, this piqued my curiosity and I wanted to visit the place more than ever.
My Experience at Mozimo:
Warning: you’ll crave a lot of chocolate!
The scent of chocolate surrounded me as I stepped inside, whetting my appetite for an unforgettable chocolaty adventure ahead. From raw, textured bark to gorgeous dark chocolate bars, Mozimo tempts the senses with its delicious pralines, classic dragees, whimsical Rocky Chunks and comforting hot chocolate. The café’s chocolate-inspired studio is a haven for chocolate lovers, offering a variety of flavours harmoniously paired with fruits, nuts, spices and delicious treats. And a host of beautiful gift hampers you can’t ignore.

I sampled a few creations and it was an eye-opening experience when Amritanshu explained the correct way to taste chocolate. I could feel the original form of each ingredient in the chocolate creations. I tried a variety of chocolate barks and pralines and they were all better than each other.
The Mango Gelato was amazing. It was refreshing, delicious and summery. The Roasted Hazelnut Gelato was my second favorite. The essence of hazelnut shined through in this cold dish. And if you like hazelnut, you will love the Hazelnut Spread. Lick it from the bottle or spread it on our toast, and you will definitely get a mouth-watering taste.

Now, with so many dishes in my stomach, I felt like having a nice drink and I had the classic cold coffee and yes, I must admit that it was much better than the coffee you get in regular cafes.
During my visit, I saw people flocking to the cafe to unwind with loved ones over chocolates, desserts and beverages. Apart from indulging in chocolates, Mozimo is the perfect place for a coffee date. Their menu has a range of hot and cold coffee beverages. In winters, I am sure the hot chocolate will sell like ‘hot cakes’. The waffles also looked tempting. Since I was already full, I put it on my bucket list for the next visit.
So is all the hype around Mojimo real?
As I savoured their delicious delicacies, it became clear why Mozzimo has received such widespread acclaim. A chocolate shop, dessert parlour, coffee shop – all in one place! How can one not love it? Add to this the subtle elegance of Italian aesthetics, the calm atmosphere that pays homage to the timeless beauty of Venice’s structures. Plus, the French music elevated the ambiance and our mood even further.
But wait, there’s more! I was given a tour of the entire shop, including the in-house chocolate factory!
Tour of the Mojimo Chocolate Factory:
Yes, Mojimo makes its own chocolate. I had the chance to visit the in-house chocolate factory and understand how chocolate is made. It is a meticulous but interesting process and the owner explained it very well… with a lot of passion!
Cocoa beans sourced from Kerala undergo complex processes of roasting, cracking, winnowing and refining on-site through an integration of European methods and state-of-the-art machinery. Impressive, isn’t it?
And then it was time to visit the chocolate aging cellar, where the alchemy of cocoa infusion takes place. The chocolate is aged for months, some even years, resulting in mind-blowingly delicious chocolate! I admit I wanted to stay in the cellar for as long as possible and soak in the divine aromas emanating from the aged chocolate. From the lively workshop to the bustling kitchen and the quiet chocolate aging cellar – I got to see it all under one roof.

Now, let me tell you about the journey of Mojimo – how it all began:
The story of Mozimo is one of passion, dedication and the relentless pursuit of perfection. Around 2021, visionary owners Amritanshu Agarwal and Priyanka Gupta embarked on a quest for the quintessential chocolate experience, visiting markets and hubs of the chocolate industry in India, Dubai and Europe. Their journey took them to secluded cocoa plantations in South India, where they built relationships with growers committed to sustainable and ethical practices. Equipped with state-of-the-art machinery from Europe, they aimed to infuse an artisanal essence into their chocolate creations, thus laying the foundation for Mozimo’s culinary journey.

Mozimo’s Eco-Friendly Initiatives:
Central to Mozimo’s principles is a firm dedication to sustainability, promoting the use of environmentally conscious packaging and sourcing premium cocoa exclusively from slavery-free regions. By adopting zero preservatives and additives, Mozimo not only creates nutritious dishes, but also reduces pressure on natural resources and ecosystems. From paper and glass containers to paper, jute and cloth bags, Mozimo’s commitment to sustainability is evident in every aspect of its operations.
Mozimo is a culinary destination that celebrates the artistry, passion and heritage of chocolate making. Whether you live in Chandigarh or are visiting ‘The City Beautiful’, Mozimo is a must-visit. I am already waiting to go back there, but until then, I am craving their Mango Sorbet!
