With this appointment, Noel Sir Dorabji becomes the 11th Chairman of Tata Trust and Sir Ratan becomes the sixth Chairman of Tata Trust.
Naval H. Tata and Simon N. Tata’s son Noel Tata has been closely associated with the Tata group for over four decades. He has held numerous leadership positions in various Tata companies including Trent, Voltas and Tata Investment Corporation. He is also the Vice Chairman of Tata Steel and Titan Company Limited.
Since Ratan Tata had not named a successor before his death, the Tata Trust’s board needed to appoint a new chairman from among the existing trustees. Two trusts, Sir Dorabji Tata Trust and Sir Ratan Tata Trust, own 66% stake in Tata Sons, the holding company of the Tata Group.
Noel Tata’s leadership experience extends to Trent Limited, where he served as Managing Director and expanded from a single store in 1998 to over 700 stores today. He holds a degree from the University of Sussex (UK) and completed the International Executive Program (IEP) at INSEAD.
Under his stewardship, Trent has grown significantly, now managing global brands such as Zara and Massimo Dutti, as well as brands including Westside, Star Bazaar and Zoodio. Company for FY24 Rs. 12,669 crore in consolidated revenue. In 2010, Noel joined Tata International, where he served till 2021, and currently, he holds critical roles in the Tata Group.
