Delhi customer complains of cockroaches in L’Opera’s coffee, bakery responds

Must read

Food safety is extremely important but it can be difficult to ensure food hygiene when purchasing food and drinks from outside. In a recent Reddit post, a customer reported that he found a cockroach floating on the surface of his cold coffee purchased from L’Opera, Khan Market, Delhi. Shared by Redditor @WaltzSimple6037, the user posted a photo of an iced latte and you can see ice cubes floating on top along with the reported cockroach. In the second photo, the customer posted a photo of the bill, which shows proof of purchase.

The post reads, “I visited Lopera in Khan Market today and ordered an iced latte to go. When I opened the drink, I thought I saw a coffee bean floating, but when I turned it over , then he was a terrible cockroach.”

The customer reported that the staff were “uncaring” and had “no real concern”. He added, “I’m seriously questioning how clean this place is now. What was even worse was how the staff handled it – they were so careless and just kept saying sorry like robots, no real concern If the hygiene is so bad in such a famous cafe, I can’t imagine what it would be like in other places in India. Has anyone else had the same problem here or in other cafes?’

Responding to the incident, L’Opera management told NDTV, “On the afternoon of Friday, October 4, two customers were served two drinks as take-aways at an outlet of L’Opera in Delhi. About ten minutes later , one of the customers returned to the outlet and complained of a worm in one of his drinks.

“Despite the fact that the product was not under L’Opera’s control for quite some time, the staff immediately apologized, refunded the purchase price and offered to replace the drink. The customer preferred to accept a refund and declined the offer. In subsequent exchanges with the customer that included his family and friends, L’Opera’s more senior staff apologized, stating that whatever the exact circumstances of the case, the L’Opera customer has been extremely dissatisfied. We are deeply sorry,” Lopera said.
