PM Modi’s state visit to Maldives next year

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri announced on Monday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has accepted the invitation of Maldivian President Mohammed Muizzu for a state visit to Male next year.

The Foreign Secretary said that the dates of PM Modi’s visit will be decided through diplomatic channels.

“President Muizzu expressed his gratitude for the very warm welcome he and his delegation received here. He invited the Prime Minister to visit the Maldives on a State Visit next year. The Prime Minister accepted the invitation and the dates of the visit. Through diplomatic channels The means will be worked out,” Mr Misri said at a special briefing on Monday.

He said the engagement and outcomes during Muizzu’s visit will be able to take relations between the two countries to new heights in the years to come.

“Overall, I would say that the engagement and outcomes during this visit will enable India-Maldives relations to scale new heights in the years to come and make it more apt to deal with emerging challenges in the region in times to come. year,” Mishri said at the briefing.

Earlier in the day, PM Modi and President Muizzu held bilateral talks at Hyderabad House on Monday. After the bilateral meeting, both the leaders also held delegation level talks at Hyderabad House.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and other representatives were present on the occasion.

In a post on Twitter, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “Taking forward the India-Maldives special relationship! PM Narendra Modi warmly welcomes Maldivian President Mohammed Muizzu upon his arrival at Hyderabad House. India-Maldives bilateral There was a wide-ranging discussion on relations.” “Relations are ahead.”

After meeting the President of Maldives, PM Modi said that India will cooperate in training the defense forces of Maldives to bring peace and stability in the Indian Ocean region.

“We also had detailed discussions on various aspects of security cooperation. Work on the Ekatha Harbor project is being carried out at a fast pace. We will continue our cooperation towards training and capacity building of the National Defense Forces of Maldives. Stability in the Indian Ocean Region and For prosperity, we will work together,” the Prime Minister said.

PM Modi said climate change is a major challenge for both the countries and he will share India’s experiences with Maldives regarding solar and energy efficiency.

Mr. Muizzu, who arrived in India on Sunday on a five-day visit, was formally welcomed at Rashtrapati Bhavan today.

On reaching Rashtrapati Bhavan, President Draupadi Murmu and PM Modi welcomed the President and First Lady of Maldives Sajida Mohammed.

Mr Muizzoo and the First Lady of Maldives paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat. After paying homage at the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial, Muizzu also signed the visitor’s book at Rajghat.

This is President Muizzu’s first bilateral visit to India after assuming office. He visited India in June 2024 to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Modi and the Council of Ministers.
