Arriving late to board a plane saved a Brazilian man’s life after his missed flight ended in tragedy yesterday evening.
Adriano Assis was scheduled to board the Voypass 2283 flight that crashed in Sao Paulo, killing all passengers and crew on board. In an interview with local news outlet TV Globo, Adriano said he was prevented from boarding the plane because he arrived late.
An excerpt from the interview was shared on X with the caption, “This man was not allowed to board the plane that crashed in Vinhedo, Sao Paulo, Brazil because he arrived late. He argued with the man at the boarding gate, but hugged him after hearing the news of the plane crashing. This is unbelievable.”
Adriano said the airline employee who stopped him from boarding the plane saved his life. He said he was late boarding the plane because of confusion over flight details. When the employee refused to let him board, he “argued with her and said things like that, and that was it. And she saved my life.”
According to the flight manifest, there were supposed to be 58 passengers on board the plane. The 58th passenger who never got on the plane was Adriano Assis. He said that after learning about the accident, he looked for the airline employee and hugged him.
He said, “I hugged him because he did his job. If he hadn’t done his job, I probably wouldn’t be doing this interview today. I said angrily, but this guy, I don’t even know his name, actually saved my life.”
