Filmmaker KC Bokadia is going to remove the ‘Jai Shri Ram’ dialogue at the end of his film ‘Teesri Begum’. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) had refused to certify the film. After the amendments agreed to by Bokadia, the board will look at it again and issue an appropriate certificate.

Bokadia had approached the Bombay High Court after the CBFC objected to certain scenes and asked him to make changes in the film. The CBFC had objected and pointed out 14 issues.

Justice Riyaz Chagla has already watched the film after the lawyers requested the bench.

Advocate Ashok Saraogi, appearing for Bokadia, and advocate Advait Sethna, appearing for the CBFC, had submitted during an earlier hearing that the dispute relating to all the insertions, deletions or modifications in the film, except the particular climax scene, had been resolved.

In this scene the main character – a Muslim man, when attacked by his Hindu wives, says, “Forgive me(Please forgive me), Jai Siya Ram, Jai Siya Ram, Jai Shri Ram.” The board had objected to this.

Saraogi suggested a dialogue – “I swear by your Lord Ram(swear by my Lord Ram)” – should be added in place of ‘Jai Shri Ram’. However, Sethna objected to the use of the word ‘Ram’ and said there was no objection to the use of the dialogue – “I’m sorry, I swear by your God(Please forgive me for your God’s sake).” Saraogi agreed to this.

In addition, Bokadia also agreed to put a disclaimer at the end of the film citing the Supreme Court’s decision on the issue of triple talaq. Objections were raised to a scene in the film that allegedly went against the Supreme Court’s decision.

After these modifications, the CBFC will re-view the film and then an appropriate certificate will be issued.
