Last week, the BSE benchmark Sensex was down 2,091.68 points or 2.67 percent and the NSE Nifty was down 566.85 points or 2.32 percent.
“Markets witnessed a weak and volatile week as benchmark indices weighed heavily on investor sentiment due to a sharp rise in crude oil prices and renewed geopolitical tensions,” said Ajit Mishra – SVP, Research, Religare Broking Ltd.
Banking stocks emerged as the biggest drag following mixed Q1 FY27 earnings, while the risk-off environment and rupee weakness further dampened buying interest, he added.
From the top-10 pack, Hindustan Unilever emerged as the sole winner.
Reliance Industries, Bharti Airtel, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, State Bank of India, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Bajaj Finance, Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) and Larsen & Toubro faced erosion in their valuations.
The market valuation of HDFC Bank is Rs. 1,18,383.91 crore reduced to Rs. 11,43,985.90 crores. Last week, shares of HDFC Bank fell 9.40 percent amid concerns on the margin front.
Reliance Industries is valued at Rs. 65,429.82 crore reduced to Rs. 17,29,661.44 crores.
State Bank of India is valued at Rs. 26,814.94 crore reduced to Rs. 9,36,953.84 crore and Bajaj Finance valued at Rs. 26,802.74 crore reduced to Rs. 6,30,471.54 crores.
LIC’s market capitalization (mcap) is Rs. 15,116.74 crore reduced to Rs. 5,33,007.56 crore and the market capitalization of ICICI Bank stood at Rs. 6,223.84 crore reduced to Rs. 10,28,217.93 crores.
Bharti Airtel is valued at Rs. 6,021.64 crores down to Rs. 11,85,046.13 crore and TCS valued at Rs. 5,191.95 crores down to Rs. 8,15,480.75 crores.
Larsen & Toubro’s mcap at Rs. 4,092.79 crore with a decrease of Rs. 5,20,747.89 crores.
However, Hindustan Unilever’s mcap is Rs. 152.73 crore increased to Rs. 5,03,928.59 crores.
Reliance Industries remained the most valuable company, followed by Bharti Airtel, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, State Bank of India, TCS, Bajaj Finance, LIC, Larsen & Toubro and Hindustan Unilever.
