US Vice President JD Vance has issued a strong warning to Israel over criticism of the US-Iran agreement reached after several weeks of conflict and tension. Defending the MAGA supremo, Vance said that “Trump is Israel’s only ally.“His comments came amid reports that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his aides were “personally unhappy” with the agreement, which aimed to end the conflict with Iran. Vance also stressed that Washington remains Israel’s strongest and most important ally.Speaking at a White House briefing, Vance defended the agreement amid criticism from critics who have argued that it fails to adequately address Iran’s nuclear and ballistic missile programs and could hamper Israel’s military operations against Hezbollah in Lebanon.Responding to reports that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was unhappy with the agreement, Vance said he had not heard such comments directly from Netanyahu but that he had criticized members of the Israeli cabinet.Vance said, “My message to them will be two-fold. No. 1: Donald J. Trump is the only head of state in the entire world who is sympathetic to the nation of Israel right now.”He also said, “If I were in the cabinet of the Israeli government, I probably wouldn’t be attacking our only powerful ally left anywhere in the world.”The Vice President also highlighted US military support for Israel, saying, “Two-thirds of the defensive weapons protecting Israel are made by American hands and paid for by American tax dollars.” According to Reuters report, the US currently provides about $4 billion in annual military aid to Israel. However, Netanyahu’s office or the Israeli Foreign Ministry have not yet responded to the comments.Vance said, “The problem for Israel is not Donald J. Trump and anyone in Israel who thinks their biggest problem is the President of the United States needs to wake up and understand the reality of the situation in the country.”Israeli officials, speaking anonymously to Reuters, said the deal did not address concerns over Iran’s nuclear and missile programs. Netanyahu later said that Israel values its relations with Washington but would continue to maintain a security presence in southern Lebanon. The controversy intensified after Vance criticized Israeli ministers Itamar Ben-Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich in an interview with The New York Times.“What is your exact proposal? You’re a country of 9 million people. You can’t fight your way out of solving every single national security problem,” Vance said in the interview. He also described the ‘strange nervousness’ and ‘cynicism’ in Israel over the agreement, saying, “The deal is not written that way.”Meanwhile, the White House had said Vance would not travel to Switzerland for a planned round of technical talks with Iran due to logistical challenges. Officials quoted by Reuters said implementation details were continuing to be negotiated, while oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz have resumed following the easing of sanctions and a temporary ceasefire.
