Cobra Kai may be ending, but the Karate Kid franchise is far from over!
Ralph Macchio, who helms the Netflix hit series, says he will be working with the cast and crew. However, the actor is eagerly awaiting the Karate Kid movie, which also stars karate legend Jackie Chan. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Macchio talked about saying goodbye to Cobra Kai and collaborating with the OG Karate Kid star!
Macchio’s reaction to working with Jackie Chan
A new Karate Kid movie will hit theaters following the release of five episodes from Cobra Kai’s sixth season. The upcoming film will star Macchio alongside OG Karate Kid actor and legend Jackie Chan – who previously played the martial arts master in the 2010 remake opposite Jaden Smith.
“Jackie Chan is a legend, just to have this opportunity to work with him was exciting. He was amazing,” Macchio said about working with him in the new film, which will be released in 2025. The actor also spoke about Chan’s childlike curiosity on set. “He loved being on set and it was like his first day every day,” he said.
Although the film is still in its early stages, he is excited to see where the story will go. Macchio also hinted at the film having “a great young cast.” He added, “We’ll see where it goes.”
Ralph Macchio reveals what he’ll miss most about Cobra Kai
From the first two seasons premiering on YouTube Red to finding a streaming home on Netflix, the show has come a long way and is reaching its finale after six successful seasons! Set thirty years after the 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament, the show continues to explore the conflict between Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka).
On Wednesday, July 17, at the Los Angeles premiere of the Karate Kid sequel’s final season, Macchio spoke to THR about the show’s end.
He said what he will miss most is working with the cast and crew. “We will be friends for life. That’s what happens in the Karate Kid world, there are such deep relationships,” he said.
He said he would miss working with them, but believed they would collaborate on another creative project. “For me, it’s not goodbye forever. It’s I’ll see you next time,” he said.
Cobra Kai Part 1 premiered on July 18, Part 2 will premiere on November 15, and the third and final part of Season 6 will arrive in 2025.
