Filmmaker Buchi Babu Sana, Director pedi, Has issued a public apology after criticism over Janhvi Kapoor’s overtly sexual portrayal in the film. The controversy escalated after some scenes were criticized online, leading the director to address the concerns and confirm that changes would be made based on audience feedback.
Sharing on X, Butchi Babu directly responded to the ongoing debate around the hypersexualized portrayal of Janhvi Kapoor, saying that the team has reviewed the feedback and taken it seriously. The issue focuses on specific sequences where ineffective camera angles, problematic dialogues that normalize assault, harassment and non-consent have reignited the debate over how Janhvi Kapoor’s character, Achiamma, was written, crafted and presented in mass commercial entertainment.

What did the Peddi director say in his apology?
In his statement, pedi The director wrote, “Cinema should entertain, inspire and connect with the audience. It should never make anyone feel uncomfortable or insulted.” He said feedback regarding some scenes has been heard and accepted.
Addressing the criticism he clarified, “It was never our intention to make offensive comments or disrespect any female character.” He further added that if any part of the film is viewed differently, the team respects those sentiments and understands the concerns raised.
Will Jhanvi Kapoor’s scenes be changed in Pedi?
Buchi Babu Sana confirmed that the team has decided to modify the relevant parts after reviewing the audience feedback. He stressed that film production should evolve with the sensibilities and expectations of the audience.
“After reviewing the feedback, we have decided to make changes in the relevant parts,” he said, adding that cinema grows through engagement with the audience and requires responsibility from storytellers.
What’s next for Peddie?
With post-production underway, the team hopes to soon incorporate the modifications and send it to theatres. Buchi Babu also underlined his commitment towards respectful representation on screen.
“Every woman deserves to be represented with respect, importance and dignity,” she said. He said the team focuses on telling stories that feature strong and meaningful characters. The director thanked the audience for sharing their views honestly.
