Shekhar Kapur wants to cast IPL sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi in Masoom
Shekhar Kapur said that he could have cast IPL sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi in Masoom if Kishore was not already a sensational cricketer.

Padma Bhushan awardee Shekhar Kapur has said that he would have loved to cast teenage cricket sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi in his film. InnocentHighlighting the fact that a 15-year-old player’s rapid progress in cricket can come in the way.
On Sunday, Kapoor shared a picture of the young cricketer on X, and wrote, “If Suryavanshi wasn’t such a sensational cricketer.. I could have cast him.” Innocent Film (sic).”

Innocent: The New Generation: A Modern Lens on a Classic Tale
Kapoor’s post came like this Masoom: New Generation Remains in pre-production. The film sets out to explore ideas of identity, family, love and migration through a modern lens while maintaining the emotional core of the original. It will reportedly star Naseeruddin Shah, Shabana Azmi, Manoj Bajpayee, Nithya Menen and Kaveri Kapoor, with production set to begin later this year.
About Vaibhav Suryavanshi
Suryavanshi, a left-handed batsman from Bihar, has emerged as one of the most exciting young talents in Indian cricket. Playing for Rajasthan Royals, he made headlines in IPL 2025 when he became the youngest player to score a century in the history of the tournament by scoring 101 off 38 balls against Gujarat Titans. The century came in 35 balls, making it the fastest IPL century by an Indian and the second fastest overall in the history of the tournament.
Kapoor, who is active on social media, had earlier directed Innocent (1983), starring Naseeruddin Shah, Shabana Azmi, Saeed Jaffrey, Supriya Pathak, Jugal Hansraj and Urmila Matondkar.
The director is also known for directing the National Film Award winning bandit queen (1994), starring Seema Biswas, Nirmal Pandey, Aditya Srivastava, Gajraj Rao, Saurabh Shukla, Manoj Bajpayee, Raghuveer Yadav and Govind Namdev.
Kapoor is also set to adapt Ann Brasher’s novel, my name is smritiIn a series of the same name which he will direct and produce.
