Women have the most agency in film
When asked if the film used comedy to glorify cheating, Ayushmann quickly dismissed the criticism, saying that the women in the film dominate the narrative.
“Actually, the women in the film have the most agency. I’m the chosen victim,” he said, laughing. “It’s not just symbolism either. All three women are alphas in their own ways. Rakul’s character is probably a proper alpha. That’s the beauty of the film – it’s not male-centric. The characters and roles are divided equally.”
The actor further emphasized that the film does not romanticize infidelity and said that he would never associate himself with a regressive project.
“And the climax brings everyone together. You have to see it to believe it. We’re not glorifying cheating. It’s not about infidelity; it’s a comedy of errors,” he explained. “Personally, I would never do a regressive film. I have always chosen subjects that start conversations. This is not a message-oriented film; it is pure comedy. But by the end, you will never feel that it is not progressive or based on the values of 2026.”
Ayushmann recalls childhood memories of the original film
Ayushmann also reminisced about his early memories of the original Pati Patni Aur Woh, and revealed that it had more to do with its iconic song than the plot. Recalling his childhood in Chandigarh, the actor loved listening to “”.cold cold water“.
“My first memory is singing, ‘one should take bath with cold water‘. I have taken bath to that song many times since my childhood,” he shared. ”At that time, geysers were a luxury, so even during winters I used to take cold water baths. That song used to encourage me. I don’t remember the entire film, but I remember a few bits and pieces here and there. It was an iconic film and I’m glad we are now a part of that legacy.”
It’s like a husband universe
While audiences inevitably compared him to both Sanjeev Kumar and Kartik Aaryan, who headlined the 2019 adaptation, Ayushmann looked completely unfazed. Instead, he described the franchise as an expanded cinematic universe centered around the husbands.
“It’s not really a comparison. We’re just taking it forward,” he said. “It’s like a Pati universe. We have the detective universe and the horror universe, but over 40 crore Patis in India don’t have their own universe. We’re just building that universe. The film is extremely fun and entertaining, and I’m excited for the audience to experience it together because it’s a community watch.”
The actor also got emotional while talking about his upcoming collaboration with Sooraj Barjatya. Describing the project as a dream come true, Ayushmann said that working with the filmmaker has been a deeply gratifying experience.
He said, “One of the earliest films I saw in theaters was Barjatya’s film. I have grown up watching Rajshri films, so it feels surreal.” “The film is nearing completion, with only seven days of shooting left. We are aiming for a year-end release, and honestly being on the Barjatya sets feels spiritually cathartic.”
It also stars Rakul Preet Singh, Sara Ali Khan and Wamiqa Gabbi. husband wife and those two It is set to release in theaters on May 15.
