A 7-month-old baby girl died after being shot in Brooklyn on Wednesday afternoon, sparking outrage and grief as horrifying surveillance footage captured the moment her mother realized the tragedy.The infant, identified as Kaori Patterson-Moore, was in a stroller with her parents near the intersection of Humboldt and Moore streets in Williamsburg when the shooting occurred about 1:15 p.m., police said.Family members said the infant had just started saying “mom” and had not yet started walking.The incident has reignited concerns over gun violence in New York City, with officials pledging renewed efforts to address the issue.Officials said two suspects riding a motorcycle arrived at the area, where a group of people had gathered outside a deli. The passenger allegedly opened fire before the duo fled the spot.According to investigators, the suspects were traveling the wrong way on the road when they approached the crowd. The gunman fired several bullets, one of which hit the child in the head.Surveillance footage from a nearby bodega reveals the horrific outcome. The child’s mother, Liana Charles-Moore, was initially unaware of what had happened, she was caring for her 2-year-old son when she looked in the stroller and saw her daughter bleeding.Eyewitnesses described scenes of panic and confusion. Some people initially mistook the firing for fireworks before realizing the seriousness of the situation.A resident said he saw the child on the ground and the mother screaming in distress. Another witness said he initially thought the sounds were firecrackers, but felt debris falling at his feet.The girl’s father took her to Woodhull Hospital, where she was declared dead at 1:46 pm. His elder brother suffered minor injuries and was treated.

What did the NYPD police say?

Police said the suspects fled the scene on a motorcycle but collided with an oncoming vehicle two blocks away.The passenger was removed from the bike and taken to the hospital, where he was later identified as a suspect and taken into custody in connection with a separate domestic incident. He had not been formally charged in the shooting as of Wednesday evening.Officials have started searching for the second suspect, who was driving the motorcycle.Police Commissioner Jessica S. Tisch said the investigation is ongoing and authorities are working to determine a motive and intended target.
