Singer Neeraj Shridhar on remaking old songs in Bollywood: Easy way to become a hit
Famous singer-composer Neeraj Shridhar recently spoke about the trend of remixes. In an exclusive interview with India Today.in, Shridhar called it an ‘easy way to get a hit’.
Neeraj Shridhar, lead singer-composer and vocalist of the popular rock band ‘Bombay Vikings’, recently spoke about the trend of remixes and how the entertainment industry often revamps old chartbusters to create hits. In an exclusive conversation with IndiaToday.in, Shridhar said that remixes are not the right way and by doing so, producers are not respecting music as much as they should.
When asked about the growing trend of remixes in Bollywood, Neeraj Shridhar told that he doesn’t think it is ‘right to do so’. He said, “Every film that is coming out these days has some kind of remake or remix, which I don’t think is right. In such a case, we don’t respect the music. We are just using it.”
He further added, “It’s an easy route because people have heard those songs, and they enjoy them. They’ve enjoyed them for a very long time in the past. And, it’s an easy route to getting hits.”
When asked what inspired him to recreate old tunes from the early 2000s, he said, “I wanted to do something with those old songs so that people start respecting those tunes. Because, I feel we had some amazing tunes in the past, and we had to revive them.”
He said, “Later I realised that it was a very noble thing because everyone thought I was doing it to make money. But, it was not like that. My mind was always forcing me to do something in relation to the old tunes. So, I think it was the need of the hour.”
Neeraj Shridhar is a playback singer, composer and singer-songwriter who still serves as the lead singer of the Indian pop and rock band Bombay Vikings. He is known for his popular tracks ‘Caller Tune’, ‘Aahun Aahun’, ‘Hawa Mein Udti Jaaye’, ‘Kya Surat Hai’, ‘Woh Chali Woh Chali’ and others.
