Stock market holidays in 2026
In total, 16 stock market holidays are scheduled for 2026, three of which have already passed. After today and the next two weeks, trading will be suspended on 10 more occasions in the remaining nine months.
Following Good Friday, the next holiday in April is Dr. April 14. Baba Saheb Ambedkar Jayanti, followed by Maharashtra Day on May 1 and Bakri Eid on May 28.
Later in the year, trade will be suspended on Moharram on June 26, Ganesh Chaturthi on September 14 and Gandhi Jayanti on October 2. This will be followed by Dussehra on October 20, Diwali Balipratipada on November 10 and Guru Nanak Jayanti on November 24. The last market holiday on December 2026 will be on December 25.
Will MCX open?
India’s largest commodity exchange, the Multi Commodity Exchange of India (MCX), will be closed for trading in the first session (9 am to 5 pm) on Shri Mahavir Jayanthi. Trading will resume between 5 pm to 11:30 pm as per the schedule on the website.
For Good Friday, India’s multi-commodity exchanges will be closed for both morning and evening sessions on Good Friday in line with global markets, many of which will also be closed for events.
MCX’s annual calendar announces 16 trading holidays in 2026, during which the exchange will be partially or fully closed. The next holiday after both will be Baba Saheb Ambedkar Jayanti on April 14. As on Mahavir Jayanti, trading will be closed for the morning session and will resume in the evening.
The largest agri-commodity bourse, the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange Limited (NCDEX), will remain closed in both sessions.
