Veteran actor-filmmaker Amol Palekar will be honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2026 Mahindra Excellence in Theater Awards (META). The honor celebrates his immense, decades-long impact as an actor and director who redefined contemporary storytelling in both Indian theater and cinema.

The 21st edition of META, founded by Mahindra Group and produced by Teamwork Arts, is scheduled to take place in New Delhi from March 19 to March 25, 2026, as reported News 18. With a career spanning several decades, Palekar has had a distinctive presence in theatre, film and television. On stage, he was instrumental in reimagining how audiences experience performances beyond traditional auditoriums and into unconventional settings such as parks, rooftops, canteens and even garages.

The selected plays will be performed across two venues in Delhi – Kamani Auditorium and Shri Ram Center for Performing Arts – with two shows scheduled on each day of the festival. The festival will reach its conclusion with the META Awards Night to be held at the Kamani Auditorium on March 25.

The shortlisted productions explore a wide range of themes including mythology, devotion, identity, politics and social change. They feature both traditional and modern storytelling from across India, including performances in Hindi, Malayalam, Bengali, Marathi, Hindustani, Sanskrit, Bundelkhandi, English and even obscure languages.

The 2026 jury panel includes eminent people from the theater community, including Amal Allana, Anuradha Kapoor, Rajit Kapoor, Satish Alekar and Ila Arun.
