According to a report by TMZ, Only Murders in the Building star Martin Short’s daughter Katherine passed away on the evening of February 24, 2026. According to coverage, the LAPD and the fire department were called to her home in the Hollywood Hills. Responding to the same, officers reached the site around 6:40 pm PT and found him dead. Subsequently, the 75-year-old actor’s The Best of Steve Martin and Martin Short Comedy Shows was canceled via notices on the websites of the Milwaukee and Minneapolis locations.
Martin Short’s family confirms daughter Katherine’s death
According to a note shared with TMZ, the family confirmed the 42-year-old’s passing. "It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Katherine Hartley Short. The Small family is devastated by this loss, and are asking for privacy at this time. Katherine was loved by all and will be remembered for the light and joy she brought to the world."
It is known that Catherine was a social worker based in Los Angeles. She is said to have completed her undergraduate education from NYU and received a master’s degree from USC in its social work program. The late daughter of Martin Short and Nancy Dolman was noted for her work with non-profit organizations. Her siblings are Henry Short and Oliver Patrick Short, who were also adopted by the couple, just like her. Her mother died in 2010 after battling ovarian cancer, following her marriage to the star for nearly three decades since the 1980s.
Meanwhile, following his passing, Martin Short’s appearances in Milwaukee and Minneapolis on Friday and Saturday, respectively, were postponed, organizers announced. He has cited ‘unforeseen circumstances’ as the reason, the future schedule is unclear at the moment.
