Filmmaker SS Rajamouli’s Varanasi is one of the most awaited films of Indian cinema. The makers recently announced that the film will release on April 7, 2027, coinciding with Ugadi next year and a new look will be released. Now, Varanasi lead actors, Mahesh Babu and Priyanka Chopra Jonas sat down for an interview with Collider and talked about the film in detail.
Mahesh Babu on the films that changed him
When asked which films changed him as an actor, Mahesh Babu said, "So the film that changed me is this (referring to Varanasi). Many films had come before that. Every film changes you. So the film that changed me – Pokiri was a film. I mean… it made me a star. So obviously it changed me. It was 2006 and that movie was a huge hit!"
The actor further said, "It changed so much for me that I got really confused and didn’t know what to do. This is because you go into a stage where the audience’s expectations are so high that you literally go into a place where you don’t know what to do next. So this happened with me." He ended his answer by praising his new experience of Varanasi. The Nandi Award winning actor quipped, "Every film changes your mindset, but there is nothing like what I am experiencing right now with this film. I mean it’s something else."
