Exclusive: Rani Mukherjee reveals how Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway helped her after miscarriage: ‘My sense of loss…’

Rani Mukherjee is a powerhouse in the Indian entertainment industry. After her debut in Bier Fool in 1996, she rose to the top with an impressive string of roles, crafting a career that spanned three decades. Ahead of the release of the next installment of her police franchise film, Mardaani 3, she sat down with Pinkvilla to talk exclusively about her acting and how important it was to get the National Award for her 2023 film Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway. She opened up about getting the script for this project during a difficult time in her life, after the miscarriage of her second child.

Sharing how she chooses stories that make an impact and spread awareness, the actress revealed that the decision to star in Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway came from this idea. She was sent this project while she was recovering from the loss of her second child in 2020, which made the experience even more important for her. Rani Mukherjee told Pinkvilla, “That story happened to me at such a juncture, that is, that film came to me when I had lost my second child. So this sense of loss was very much for me and after listening to that story, I got so connected and I said, this story tells me.”

(That story came to me at a time when I had lost my second child (due to miscarriage). So my sense of loss was huge, and hearing the story in that film, I connected with it and wanted to tell it to people.)

Talking about how difficult life is for people living abroad, she said that she wanted to showcase to her audience the desperate feelings of a mother who is separated from her child. “(I) tell this story to India and tell them that our passion that we will go to other villages and settle there is not true, the truth is very different.”

(I wanted to show this film to the people of India, where we have a passion to go and settle in other countries. I wanted to show the reality.)

He said, “What is the condition of a mother without her children and someone takes your child away, aapki aankheon mein to maa pe kya gujarti hai, bachchan par kya gujarati hai.”

(I wanted to show the pain a mother feels when her child is snatched away in front of her eyes and how children also feel it.)

Rani Mukherjee and husband Aditya Chopra have a daughter named Adira, whom they welcomed in 2015. The actress shared her experience in 2023, having suffered a miscarriage after 5 months of her pregnancy in 2020.
