Bhoot Police released directly on OTT in 2021 and now, the makers are preparing to expand it with a sequel. The debut film, directed by Pawan Kripalani, featured Saif Ali Khan and Arjun Kapoor playing quirky ghost hunters alongside Jacqueline Fernandez and Yami Gautam. Bhoot Police found its audience on OTT, especially for its light-hearted take on the horror-comedy genre.
Pinkvilla has exclusively learned that Bhoot Police 2 is officially in development, and acclaimed filmmaker Priyadarshan has been roped in to direct the sequel. Yes, you read that right! With Priyadarshan’s mastery of comedy combined with strong storytelling, it will be interesting to see what will happen in it. An insider confirmed, “The filmmaker is charging Rs 21 crore for the project.”
A Little Birdy also told us, “Although the sequel retains the basic idea of a horror-comedy, the casting will look completely fresh. Saif Ali Khan and Arjun Kapoor will not be returning for the second installment. Instead, the makers are planning to introduce a new pair who can bring a new energy to the franchise.”
“The idea is to reboot the franchise with a new pair. The makers are considering two actors – one senior and one junior – to make an interesting combo. It’s a proper horror comedy, staying in line with the genre but getting more of a dramatic treatment,” revealed a source close to the development.
The film is expected to go on floors by the end of the year once the casting is finalized and pre-production is completed. With Priyadarshan at the helm, Bhoot Police 2 aims to go bigger. Well, as the horror-comedy is gaining support from the audience, Bhoot Police 2 is getting ready for a new life with a new cast and director. The film will be backed by producers Ramesh Taurani and Akshay Puri.
