Nothing CEO Carl Pei confirmed today that “some products” launching before the end of March will have UFS 3.1 storage. This quite clearly refers to the phone (4A) series, although which exact device will come with UFS 3.1 storage and which will not remains to be seen.
Last year, the Nothing Phone (3A) and Nothing Phone (3A) Pro launched in early March, which is why we assume Pei is talking about their successors. Those devices use UFS 2.2 storage, a decision that was not explained at the time as being “not about cutting costs, but about putting resources where they matter most”.

The company then jokingly stated that “UFS 3.1 sounds great on paper, but in everyday use, its benefits are often minor compared to the optimizations in software, battery life, and display quality”. So after one year the benefits are less marginal? We can’t understand why Nothing couldn’t accept the fact that this was, apparently, a cost-cutting decision.
Anyway, that’s all gone back now. Carl Pei says brands now face “a simple choice” when facing huge increases in RAM pricing due to investments in AI data centers: “In some cases raise prices by 30% or more, or downgrade specifications”. He further says that “the More features for less money The model on which many value brands were built will no longer be sustainable in 2026.”
Translation: Nothing Phone (4A) devices will either come with downgraded specs compared to their predecessors, or with up to 30% higher prices. Pei says this is actually good news for his company, as it realized early on that it couldn’t win on the spec sheet alone, so it decided to “focus on improving the user experience, proving that how a phone looks and feels matters more than its raw numbers”. And yet, Nothing’s sales numbers compared to its competitors disagree.
