Comedian and actor Amy Schumer has filed for divorce from her husband, chef Chris Fischer, officially beginning legal proceedings to end their seven-year marriage. The filing, which occurred on Tuesday, Jan. 6, was confirmed by New York County court records and comes weeks after Schumer publicly addressed their separation in December. The couple, who have a six-year-old son, announced their intention to focus on co-parenting and mutual respect during this transition.

Schumer previously addressed the split in a candid Instagram post on Dec. 12, writing, “Chris and I have made the difficult decision to end our marriage after 7 years.” They added, “We love each other very much and will continue to focus on raising our son. We would appreciate people respecting our privacy at this time.” Schumer ended her message with, “Warmly and complete love and respect! Family forever.” The post has since been removed.

Sources close to the former couple described the separation as mutually respectful and conflict-free. An insider told People The magazine said there was “nothing ugly” between them, adding, “It’s an amicable split. They’re just finalizing some things.”

The divorce decision came after a period of public speculation and mixed signals on social media.
