Dulquer Salmaan was seen in a roundtable interview with Rana Daggubati, Archana Kalpathy and Vikramaditya Motwane. As the filmmakers talked about his recent works, DQ revealed how he and his team were pushed into Hindi cinema, prompting him to shed the facade of being a big star.
Dulquer Salmaan is being ‘pushed’ in Hindi cinema
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter India, Dulquer said, “When I did Hindi films here, I would come with two people and there would be scuffles with me on the set. I had to create the illusion of being a big star; otherwise, I wouldn’t have got a chair to sit.”
The actor said that he could not find a place behind the monitor because there were too many people there. He explained that it was all about perception and obviously, if someone arrives in a fancy car with a lot of people, the perception will be that the person is a star. The OK Kanmani actor said that he is sad that this is the case and commented that his energy should not have gone in that direction.
Highlighting how the scale of the industry could be the main factor behind such instances, DQ said, “I just don’t understand. I don’t want to be bad for any industry, but I think it’s a cultural thing. Rana and I were discussing that the size of the Hindi industry is so big, the number of theatres, the markets and there are so many states that speak the language and watch those films. We only have 1-2 states, and we think That we’re a big deal. Maybe the size of the industry affects things.”
Dulquer Salmaan’s work front
Dulquer Salmaan was recently seen in the lead role in the period mystery drama Kantha directed by Selvamani Selvaraj. Set in 1950s Madras (now Chennai), the film tells the story of TK Mahadevan, a superstar who has differences with his mentor Ayya.
However, the superstar agrees to act in a film directed by his former mentor, only to sabotage the entire production with his star power. The film takes a serious turn when the set becomes the focus of a mystery after a man is found dead, with the lead cast and crew becoming the central suspects.
Looking ahead, DQ will next be seen in the action film I Am Game, directed by Nahas Hidayat of RDX fame.
