Maitreyi Ramakrishnan is set to act in a new Netflix film, titled Best of the Best, a Bollywood-Predited Dance Comedy. The film also includes comedian Hasan Minhaj and is a renovation between Maitrei and director Leena Khan, who has never worked together on the first thing before.
The project will bring together a lively South Asian culture, complex life and competitive dance with focus on friendship and identity. Netflix has not yet announced the release date.
A South Asian Old Age Dance Film
Best of the Best two childhood best friends, Maya and Anjali, who join the Bollywood dance team of their college. As they compete for a national title, they realize that the journey is more intense and chaotic than expected. The film will find out the themes of friendship, personal development and cultural pride.
According to Variety, Hasan Minhaj wrote the script with Prasant Venkatramanujam. Minhaj and Venkatramanujam will also prepare for rideback with Jonathan Irich, under their banners 186k films. Ryan Helprin will serve as an executive manufacturer.
What did Maitreyi and Priyanka share here about the film
Maitreya Ramakrishnan shared his excitement on Instagram, wrote, “My body is in the throat, but my heart is full,” and said, “Also, my character is Tamil of Srikan origin. Enjoy Hope Yell.”
Actress Priyanka Kedia is also one of the artists. He posted, “The most real announcement I never had imagined that I should meet. Thank you from under my heart, thank you for the dream of that little girl (and her parents) thank you for dreaming. It’s going to come true. It’s going to be a particularly special.
Leena Khan is known for Flora and Yulisis and will direct the film several episodes of Never Have i Ever. The story also throws light on how college Bollywood dance teams have become a place of community and cultural expression for South Asians, which makes the film reliable to many young audiences.
Maitreya Ramakrishnan is most known for his role because Dev Vishwakumar in Never Have I Ever. She also voiced in turning red and big mouths, and she will next appear in Frachier with Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis on Friday.
Hasan Minhaj, known for the Patriot Act and Homcoming King, will also appear in Disney’s upcoming film Tron: Aresi and plans a comedy tour with Ronnie Cheng.
