In short
- Apple Power may use Openai or Anthropic for Siri
- Apple can use outer llms to support your own AI system
- The internal stress reportedly increases as Apple Homagron goes away from AI
According to a report by Bloomberg, Apple is reportedly interacting with Openai and Anthropic for a major update for Siri and anthropic. The company is clearly searching for the use of external large language models (LLM) to change or support its own AI efforts. Rentally, Apple has asked both Openai and Anthropic to train versions of their models, which can be tested on Apple’s own cloud infrastructure. This setup will allow the company to keep the user data private, taking advantage of the strength of the more advanced third-party AI system.
The move is allegedly part of an internal push to revive Apple’s heavy progress in AI. In a post on X, Mark Gurman of Bloomberg said, “Apple is considering using AI technology from ethropic or openiI to power Siri, bypassing its own in-house model in a potentially blockbuster move, aims to change its AI effort.”
Gurman said that change towards external models had an internal noticeable effect. One of Apple’s senior AI engineers, Tom Gunter left the company last week. Additionally, the team behind MLX, which is Apple’s open-source AI framework, allegedly threatened to quit disappointments with the current direction.

Despite these developments, Apple has so far taken a final decision to leave its in-house model completely. Gurman said that the company is still running a project called “LLM Siri”, which can give strength to a re -designed version of Siri in 2025 using its AI model. However, Gurman says that Apple’s top officials reportedly believe that relying on the third-party model may be the key to catching with rivals in the AI race.
Earlier this year, Apple suddenly canceled the plan to create his own in-house coding model, which was declared as part of Swift Assist at the previous year’s developer conference. Instead, the company now allows developers to use devices such as chatgpt or anthropic clouds through Xcode, Xcode through their integrated growth environment. Apple is also using clouds internal for code generation.
It comes in the form of an innings as the apple increases pressure to maintain top AI talent. According to Gurman, companies like Meta and Openai are offering salary that can make Apple more than doubled, making it difficult to attract and keep efficient engineers.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg on Monday announced a new AI Division called Meta Superintendent Labs, aimed at developing Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) – an AI system that can perform better than most functions or better than humans. For this new AI unit, Meta has hunted some of the best AI researchers of its rivals such as Openi, Google and Anthropic.
Apple is allegedly working on a long-awaited improvement of Siri along with the launch of iOS 26.4 in 2026. Upgraded virtual assistants are expected to offer more sophisticated capabilities, which tipping into on-screen materials and user data to execute the complex, multi-step command with more reference-awareness.
