Apple wants to convert your airpods into studio-quality audio recording equipment. During the WWDC 2025 Kenote, the company announced a new generation of software updates coming later this year. With these updates, Apple revealed that it will add studio-curiosity audio recording and remote camera control to select the AirPods model-active noise cancellation (ANC), and AIRPODS pro.
Apple says that the purpose of these new features is to provide powerful equipment to the creators, professionals and everyday users to capture high quality audio and videos-from their ears. Read the official blog post,
Airpods to get studio-quality audio recording facility
The first update to help users capture better materials includes the ability to record studio-quality tone using your airpods. Apple says it is possible due to a combination of advanced hardware and software – including H2 chip, beamforming microphone and computational audio processing.
This update will allow users to record clean, high-loyal audio even in the noise environment, with the current voice isolation technology.
Camera Remote in AirPods
The second feature declared in Keenote is the Apple Remote Camera Trigger feature, which will convert the airpods stem into a remote shutter button. When combined with an iPhone or iPad, users will be able to press the stem to snap the photo or start video recording. A second press will allow them to stop the video.
This feature is aimed at helping users to frame shots from far away – such as Vlogers, dancers or musicians. This means that the screen is not moving forward and back to tap.
Availability of these facilities
Apple says that new features will work in iPhone, iPad and Mac, provided that the device is running iOS 26, iPados 26, or Macos Tahoe 26. These new OS updates are expected to come in their final release. Meanwhile, Apple is providing these features as a free firmware update for the airpods model supported.
Developers enrolled in Apple Developer Program can now start testing these features, while a comprehensive public beta will roll out through the Apple beta software program next month.
