Three people have died in a massive fire that broke out at a single-storey pavilion in White City, west London, on Saturday evening, according to the London Fire Brigade (LFB).Firefighters pulled three people from the burning building on New Zealand Way after the fire broke out shortly before 7pm local time. Two victims were pronounced dead at the scene, while the third was taken to hospital, where he later died.
100 firefighters, 15 engines deployed
The LFB launched a large-scale emergency response, dispatching approximately 100 firefighters and 15 fire engines to tackle the fire. Crews from North Kensington, Acton, Chiswick and surrounding fire stations were deployed after multiple emergency calls were reported to the incident.Firefighters brought the fire under control by 9.25 pm, but before that more than half of the pavilion was destroyed.
The cause is under investigation
LFB Assistant Commissioner Pat Goulborne confirmed that specialist fire investigators are working closely with the Metropolitan Police to determine the cause of the fire.“Sadly three people have died in a fire at New Zealand Way, White City,” Goulbourne said. “The fire involved a one-story pavilion, with more than half of its structure damaged.”
Police are trying to identify the victims
The Metropolitan Police said officers remained at the scene and were assisting with the ongoing investigation. Authorities are also working to identify the victims and formally notify their families.The incident occurred close to Queens Park Rangers Football Club’s home stadium, Loftus Road, prompting a significant emergency response and local concern.
