A 21-month-old girl born in Pakistan died in Britain.

A 21-month-old girl of Pakistani origin living in Britain died from severe anemia caused by a predominantly milk-based diet because she was unable to eat enough solid food to meet her iron needs, an inquest heard cited by The Mirror.Anaya Khanan died on July 22, 2025, at the Royal Blackburn Hospital in Blackburn, Lancashire, after his condition began to deteriorate rapidly and doctors began arranging for a blood transfusion. An inquest at Preston Coroners Court heard that Anaya, the daughter of Mian Abdul Khanan and Aneela Ikram, of Burnley, had developed severe anemia after relying heavily on cow’s milk because she had difficulty consuming enough solid food.Area coroner Kate Bissett recorded a narrative conclusion and said that Anaya’s death was the result of severe anemia associated with a predominantly milk-based diet.“Anaya Khanan died at the Royal Blackburn Hospital on 22 July 2025 as a result of severe anemia caused by a predominantly milk-based diet,” the coroner said. The inquest heard that Anaya had been given solid food, but was unable to eat enough to meet her nutritional requirements, especially as her condition worsened and fatigue made eating even more difficult.Medical evidence showed that Anaya had previously been seen by his GP, who arranged for blood tests. She was also examined at an urgent care center on July 10, where she was diagnosed with a urinary tract infection. The coroner noted that blood tests were not performed during that visit because they were not considered medically necessary based on her symptoms at the time.Anaya’s health deteriorated during the night between July 21 and July 22, after which her family had to take her to the hospital.Doctors determined that he needed an immediate blood transfusion, but his condition deteriorated before the procedure could be performed. He died before the transfusion could take place. Her cause of death was recorded as severe anemia caused by a predominantly milk-based diet.

about anemia

Anemia is a condition in which the body does not have enough healthy red blood cells or hemoglobin to carry enough oxygen to the tissues and organs. Common symptoms include fatigue, weakness, pale skin, shortness of breath, dizziness and fast heartbeat. Iron deficiency anemia, the most common form of the disease, can be life-threatening if left untreated, especially in infants and young children whose nutritional needs are not being met.
