Apple is increasingly increasing its iPhone production in India, while the tariff war between the US and China intensifies. Iphone -making companies for cupertino giants have allegedly planned to open two new assembly plants – one by Tata Electronics and the other by Foxconn. Rapid expansion is part of Apple’s broad strategy to widen its supply chain and reduce dependence on China. Currently, there are three iPhone assembly plants in India – two in Tamil Nadu and one in Karnataka.

According to a report by Reuters, Tata Electronics has already started operating in a new feature in Hosur, Tamil Nadu. The plant has begun production on a single assembly line, focusing on assembling the older generation iPhone model. Meanwhile, Apple’s largest contract maker is also finalizing another major feature in Foxconn, Bengaluru, Karnataka.

The report states that Foxconn Manufacturing Facility will be built at a cost of $ 2.6 billion and is expected to start early operations within days. Meanwhile, the Bengaluru feature will be tasked to allegedly produce the iPhone 16 and the iPhone 16E models. With full capacity, the factory is estimated to be constructed between 300 to 500 iPhones per hour. Reuters noted that this facility is also expected to generate employment for around 50,000 people until the construction has been fully completed in December 2027.

US President Donald Trump, with his tariffs ahead with his tariffs on China, has scrambled to re -read its supply chain. When the tariff was announced, Apple-almost in the Emergency-flew the airline of iPhones from India to the US. Apple’s West Mark Gurman has stated that Apple wants to create a mechanism where all the iPhones in the US will be gathered in India, as it will attract less tariffs and duties.

However, Gurman also says that the scheme has gone on issues as far as future iPhones are concerned. In 2026, especially Apple may face a challenge with the construction of the iPhone 18 and the rumor foldable iPhone due to the complexity brought by their new designs. Gurman noted that apple in India is so far possible while creating old iPhones like iPhone 16, has not created a completely new design outside China in the first production run.
