Mani Ratnam’s historical drama film Franchisee, Ponyin Selvan, has now attracted new attention after the announcement of its decision in the copyright case by the Delhi High Court. Music composer R Rahman has been slammed with a case of copyright violation of rupee. The film’s track Veera Raja Veera 2 crores.
The song, shown to actors Ravi Mohan and Sobhita Dhulipala, is properly raised from the original composition Shiv Stuti.
Ustad Fayaz Vasifuddin Dagar claimed that the piece was prepared by his father and uncle, and thus the manufacturers only violated copyright by copying every rhythm, music structure and even beats with some minor changes.
Delhi HC has now received the Oscar winning musician as well as the film’s makers. 2 crores and a separate Rs. 2 lakhs in the cost of the Dagar family.
This is not all, because the court has asked the production house to immediately improve the song credit on all platforms, wherever it has been released, in which special mention of the original song is Ustad N. Fayazuddin Dagar and Ustad are being done by Zahiruddin Dagar.
An official statement of manufacturers or musicians is still waiting for the ongoing case.
