Veteran actress Zeenat Aman, known for her fashion sense, recently said that she finds most designer clothes ‘unwearable’. She shared a picture on Instagram in which she is wearing a mud-coloured 3D dress and jokingly said that she is doing a great impression of the ‘Komondor dog breed’.

Zeenat opened up about her fashion choices and admitted that despite her reputation as a high-fashion trendsetter, she leans towards a more casual style. The veteran actor recalled her experiences working with some of the most iconic figures in cinema and fashion. She remembered the late Bhanu Athaiya, who was the first Indian to win the Academy Award for Best Costume Design for her work in Gandhi (1982).

She wrote, “I have been blessed with many talented people in my life. Not just in cinema but the best in fashion. The extremely talented Bhanu Athaiya, India’s first Academy Award winner, designed my costumes for over 15 films including Satyam Shivam Sundaram. She was extremely meticulous and attentive and soon after our first collaboration she made a mannequin to my measurements. It would stand in her studio and on this lifeless bust she would execute the fanciful ideas that came to her mind. I would have to visit her occasionally for trials, whichever suited my schedule best. No other designer in my life has been able to create outfits for me that were as comfortable as they were sensual (sic).”

She further admitted that no other designer has matched Bhanu Athaiya’s ability to create clothes that are both comfortable and sensuous – Athaiya has nailed this balance. Despite her glamorous image, Zeenat admitted that she doesn’t consider herself a fashionista.

She said, “I have always been tickled by my personality, because I am a high fashion woman. Those who know me know that I dress very casually. A woman who mostly avoids wearing designer clothes! An extremely rich friend of mine who has museum-like mansions in Dubai and London would often gift me haute couture and then regret that it was destined to end up in my wardrobe.”

Zeenat Aman is all set to make a comeback with Ishaan Khatter and Bhumi Pednekar starrer ‘The Royals’. She also has Manish Malhotra’s ‘Bun Tikki’ in the pipeline.
