‘Women need to shut up!’: Christian nationalist pair spark massive outrage with shocking viral statement world News

The digital landscape has been engulfed in controversy following a viral video on Twitter. Texas pastor Joel Webon, who leads Right Response Ministries, and co-host Wesley Todd are facing intense backlash over comments targeting women’s roles in society and the church. The clip, highlighted by Right Wing Watch, shows the two arguing that female leadership is a “crime against God”.In the video, Todd claimed that in God’s Word and in His created nature, God said “women need to be silent.” “They need to be quiet, they don’t get a chance to make decisions, they don’t get a chance to govern because they do stupid things,” Todd said. Webb agreed with his co-host, claiming that it may sound harsh, mean, and not Christian, but the statement is actually “so Biblical and God-pleasing.” He specifically mentioned those areas, saying, “Should your daughter be quiet in your house when she’s talking to her father? No, that’s not what we’re talking about.” In the public square, in ruling civic positions of government, in the church, in positions of authority, and when it comes to decision-making in the home, with men as the “federal head” of the family, Webb said, “Absolutely, Wes is right, ladies, shut up!” He also called the women speaking out “truly an insult to God.”Many netizens called out Todd and Webb for their comments online. “But I thought right-wing men supported and loved women? Hmm—it seems they just want control. Total control.” One user wrote. “They seem to have forgotten that God appointed Queen Esther to lead the army. Time to study.” Said another.“When Joel Webb and his brothers get tired of dehumanizing black people, they move on to dehumanizing women,” another claimed. The clip was from a recent episode of his podcast ‘Gays, Jezebel and why England is becoming Catholic’, where he criticized the appointment of Dame Sarah Mullally as Archbishop of Canterbury, calling it against “scripture and nature”.Todd and Webon cited the examples of Mullally who is “pro-abortion” and an “Indian” Anglican priest who recommended using sex toys for pleasure as the basis for their claims that women should remain silent. Webb also said that for a woman to find a good man, she must “be quiet, peaceful and stop competing with men.”In another video aired on their YouTube channel NXR Studios, the duo claimed that while female pastors were not allowed in the church because it was the “word of God”, they followed it because they were conservative and women were “incapable” of doing it well. Webb even said he would change the voting system to a more “representative” system where men – brothers, fathers, husbands – vote for the larger family. Some of the videos have shocking titles like ‘A devout woman wears what her husband wants’ and ‘The era of the girl boss is over.’However, this is not an isolated incident for the pair. Earlier, in February 2025, Todd had sparked controversy by claiming that pregnant women should not be allowed to serve in office, calling it “stupid”. Whereas Webon has made many such comments in his videos before.
