Camila Cabello has announced her new single Godspeed, which will be released on September 6. It seems the song is for someone she left behind. On Friday, August 30, the Señorita singer revealed she will be expanding her new album C, XOXO with a Magic City Edition that will include the new single.
She posted a short clip on Instagram capturing the essence and beauty of the song, with the caption, “I wish you well, but far from me.” In the moody clip, Cabello swims in the ocean and stands on the shore wearing a sparkling silver dress.
He shared a photo from his music video in a separate post and announced the deluxe edition, “Always more stories to tell. Some new songs for your night in the Magic City,” he captioned the post. However, people were quick to point out the timing of the announcement.
It comes after fans speculated that Sabrina Carpenter dedicated several songs on her latest album, Short N Sweet, to her brief romance with Shawn Mendes – who publicly dated Cabello for two years – and their tangled love triangle.
The song Taste with Jenna Ortega and its music video fueled the speculation – in which two girls kill each other for a guy and then realize that he is the problem. The Espresso singer and the In My Blood singer reportedly had a brief romance in January 2023.
A few months later, he was spotted casually meeting and having fun with the Havana singer at Coachella 2024. “I heard you guys are back together and if it’s true. When he’s kissing you, you’ll just have to get a taste of me,” say the lyrics of Carpenter’s latest song, Taste. Another track from her latest album, titled Coincidence, talks about a similar topic.
One of Cabello’s songs, June Gloom, also seems to allude to their love triangle, with lyrics like, “If she’s so amazing, why are you on this side of town?/If you like her so much, what are you here trying to figure out?”
Could her upcoming song be a dig at Carpenter’s songs? Fans will have to wait a few more days to find out. The My Oh My singer released her fourth studio album, XOXO, in June which featured collaborations with artists such as Drake and Lil Nas X.
