Vivek Oberoi’s Bollywood journey was challenging full of ups and downs. Recently, the actor talked about the lesser-known challenges of being an actor and how he is under pressure to maintain a certain lifestyle, especially during the financial downturn.
In a recent conversation at the Franchise India event, Vivek Oberoi reflected on the ups and downs in his acting career and shared the lessons learned from them.
Comparing the film industry to a rollercoaster, he explained how success can make someone feel at the top of their game while the world is behind them, and the fall can be just as hard.
The Masti actor revealed that his career graph made him understand how quickly circumstances change for an actor, leading to a major financial crisis. Oberoi said that he measured his success based on the number of bouquets he received on his birthday.
“When you are doing well, there is no room in the house for bouquets coming from producers, directors, co-stars; it is just packed. And when your films are not doing well , then the number of bouquets starts decreasing.” And you realize, ‘Oh! I’m not doing very well, am I?'” he explained.
Vivek discussed how actors in Bollywood have to maintain a certain lifestyle due to social pressures, but at a heavy price. However, this understanding led him to develop his career as a business so that he would not have to make films just for the sake of money.
“That’s what has empowered me today, where I don’t have to do a film that I don’t believe in, or I don’t like the script because dal-roti chalni hai, EMI bharna hai” (I have to run my house) , pay my EMI).
Contrary to public perception that actors lead a stress-free life, he pointed out that actors face different challenges. They are accustomed to a lifestyle and there is social pressure on them to maintain it. As a result, an actor requires a lot of money for this.
On the work front, Vivek was last seen in Rohit Shetty’s web series Indian Police Force, co-starring Sidharth Malhotra and Shilpa Shetty.
