Indonesian President starts US trip with call to Trump ahead of Biden meeting
Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto congratulated Donald Trump on his election victory in a phone call after arriving in Washington on an official visit that also includes a meeting with President Joe Biden on Tuesday.
Prabowo, who has said he will pursue a non-aligned foreign policy, posted a video of his call to Trump after arriving from China, where he met President Xi Jinping on his first trip abroad since taking office last month Was.
“Wherever you are, I am willing to fly to congratulate you in person, sir,” Prabowo said in a video of the call posted on his social media account.
Trump responded, “Whenever you want, we’ll do it.”

Prabowo’s office said he made the call Monday after arriving in Washington. He did not immediately respond when asked if he planned to meet Trump in person.
Trump described his election victory as amazing and that he would get a big mandate. He said, “We had tremendous success. They say, the most successful in over 100 years.”
Trump also said the Indonesian president was “very respectful”, and praised his English, to which former Special Forces commander Prabowo replied: “All my training is American, sir.”
Prabowo expressed grief over the assassination attempt on Trump during the election campaign and expressed relief that he survived.
Trump responded, “Yes, I’m very fortunate. I’m just in the right place in the right direction, otherwise I wouldn’t be talking to you right now.”
Prabowo also met with several US company representatives in Washington, including Freeport McMoRon and energy company Chevron, and urged the companies to invest in Indonesia, his office said.
