We’ve all been there – trying to stick to a diet while the universe seems to be conspiring against us. But if you are part of a Punjabi family, this struggle goes up a notch. The constant discussion about food, the unique aroma, and of course, the constant pampering with parathas and laddus. It’s an absolute war zone for anyone attempting a diet. A video going viral on Instagram captures this hilarious and relatable struggle perfectly. This video shared by Instagram handle @tvhanji captures the essence of what dieting looks like in a Punjabi family – and honestly, it’s very relatable.
In the video, a girl is seen mixing what looks like protein powder into a glass of water while trying to stay committed to her diet. Meanwhile, his mother is frying delicious parathas in the background. And let’s face it, mother doesn’t back down. She lovingly (and constantly) praises her creation, saying: “Dekho hoon kinna sohna parauntha, very nice, very nice and delicious parauntha. I love it so much. Aloo changa paake banai da. Wow, I love it so much Yes. Eat parantha, eat parantha.” Translation: “Look how beautiful this paratha is. Very nice, very nice and delicious paratha. I love it. I made it with plenty of potatoes. Wow, I love it. Come eat paratha, come paratha Eat.”
If you’ve ever tried to say no to your Punjabi mother’s cooking, you already know how that story ends. The caption on the video says it all: “Dieting is impossible in my Punjabi family.”
