Let me start by giving you an interesting tidbit. Tourists in Goa are expecting more than just beaches these days. Luxurious food is the new trend. The ever-bustling Goa has a new destination for comforting and homely food, which I tried on my recent trip. Taup by Titli is the newest addition to the culinary scene. Set amidst the blue sea and vibrant greenery, Taup lures you in with its promise of comforting food.

Housed in a 150-year-old Portuguese villa, Taupe in Assagao represents Goa’s rich cultural heritage. Conceptualised by the team at Titli and Barfly, Taupe seamlessly blends contemporary Indian cuisine with ancient traditions, offering a unique culinary experience.

At the helm of Taupe’s kitchen is Chef Tarun Sibal, renowned for his cooking across India. His menu celebrates both tradition and innovation, featuring experimental reinterpretations of classic Indian dishes and innovative fusion creations. I have always admired his food, so it was a pleasure to meet him in person. The passion and love with which he spoke about his restaurant really reflects in the food.

My culinary journey in Taupe:

Taupe’s menu is a feast for the senses. When I sat down at my table, I had a lot of options. First I scrolled through the drinks menu and found the perfect cocktail – Coffee MartiniIt was as refreshing as it was delicious. It was the drink I needed for the meal ahead, and it was truly delicious!

My delicious journey has begun Micro Green Chaat. It lived up to the promise of a heart-winning fusion. It must be said that I love traditional chaat, but the freshness of the micro greens and the added layer of sweetness from the berries surprised and impressed me. While I was still enjoying the flavours, my table was filled with so many other tempting dishes that I couldn’t stop myself. The first one that caught my attention was Mushroom Cornetto! Yes, a creamy mushroom dish served in a cone to make it look like ice cream. I never knew ‘Cornetto’ could taste so divine… and so delicious.

Other dishes I tried were Falafel Tikki, Avocado and Grape Salad, Dal Kurchan, Taupe Mutton Seekh and Chicken TikkaDaal Kurchan stands out for its deep flavour, smoky aroma and the perfect balance of spices.

Then came time for the main meal. It was quite elaborate. I fell in love with it Tawa Mutton with bread. The meat was succulent and cooked perfectly. Next was Kulcha Plate with Dal Makhani – It was so delicious that even today sometimes I crave for it. Mutton Korma was also divine, and before I forget, Mango Prawn Curry with Sticky Rice This is a great dish, especially in summer. I was so satisfied with this delicious dish that I was also full… but happily!

Wait, the best was yet to come. Any guesses? Dessert, of course.

If you visit Taupe, you can’t leave without tasting them. French toastThis is the best dish I have ever had. With peaches, oranges and cream, this dessert satisfies both your hunger and your heart. I also liked this Coconut Milk Panacotta and Basque Cheesecake,

After writing this, I’m craving to go back to Taupe for another fabulous meal that gave me such delicious memories. Until next time, I’m dreaming of micro green chaat, tawa meat and French toast.

Let’s hear it from the chef:
When I asked Chef Tarun Sibal what makes Toup special, he proudly explained that it is the “consistency in their food offering and service and of course, the warm hospitality that brings customers back again and again.” I agree. Toup exudes warmth and hospitality, ensuring every guest feels welcome and valued the moment they step through the door. He also told me that he enjoys cooking Indian food the most; well, that was evident from the delicious dishes I ate there.

The next adventure is right next door:

And for those who want a ‘bar’ experience with great food in the evening, Barfly is right next door, in fact in the same area. And the food and drinks there are great too. You will love our favourite Maggi by Tarun Subal and the corn ribs are so delicious that you won’t be able to stop at just one order. Love tequila? Try the picante at Barfly.

With the perfect synergy between Taupe and Barfly, this culinary oasis in the lush landscape of Goa is going to be my favourite stop every time I visit Goa. Be it a relaxed dining experience at Taupe or an evening of cocktails and conversation at Barfly, this dynamic duo promises an unforgettable experience.
