In a candid interview, the 28-year-old actor shared how alcohol started affecting his life and the steps he took to regain control. Holland began his sobriety journey in January 2022 by participating in Dry January. What started as a one-month challenge then grew indefinitely when he realized that alcohol had a significant impact on his life. He admitted that his drinking habits often escalated, saying, “My problem was that I would drink once in a while and be fine, and then I would go too far.”
Reflecting on the advice that guided him, Holland shared, “My lawyer told me, ‘After a night out you’ll never wake up in the morning thinking you drank alcohol.’ That piece of advice really rang true for me.”
The actor also revealed how his week revolved around drinking, Fridays were dedicated to partying and weekends were often ruined due to hangovers. An eye-opening moment came when she asked her younger brother to take her home from a party because she felt the need to drink to enjoy herself.
During the filming of The Crowded Room in May 2022, Holland decided to remain sober to manage the pressure of production. Describing the atmosphere on the set as tense, he said, “There was a lot of hostility on that set. It was not a very cordial place.” He believed that drinking alcohol amid such stress would make the situation worse.
