Viral kitchen hacks often promise to make our lives easier by showing faster, cheaper and/or more convenient ways to perform common tasks. While some of these unusual tips work well, others may not necessarily be successful for everyone. Recently, a garlic peeling hack received mixed reviews on Instagram. It has been viewed over 54 million times so far. In the now viral video, we see a person quickly separating cloves from a whole garlic bulb using a sharp tweezer/tweezer/clipper-like tool.

They first remove the bottom and center of the garlic. Next, they remove the outer skin of the entire bulb. Finally, using the same tool, they peel the inner layers off of individual cloves. In the caption, the Instagram user wrote, “Garlic game changer! Confession: I’ve been avoiding peeling whole bulbs of garlic because of the annoying process… until now! Learned the simplest trick to peeling garlic. I usually just smash it on my countertop! At 52 years old I finally figured it out! Who else was missing this trick? From now on, whole bulbs are going into my shopping cart more often!”
