Netflix has just released the trailer for The Platform season 2, and it’s a bloody affair!
The film is a science-fiction body horror, in which prisoners are divided on different levels of a vertical prison. They get food only through a table that goes from the first floor to the bottom floor – level 333. People on the lower levels either survive by scratching or resort to extreme measures like cannibalism.

Following the massive success of the first film on the streaming platform, garnering nearly 83 million views and ranking fifth in the non-English film top ten category, Netflix gave the green signal for a sequel to the 2019 film – which gained further popularity during the pandemic lockdown.
When Goreng (Ivan Massagué) finds himself in a Vertical Self-Management Center called “The Hole” and witnesses the unfair treatment of the inmates, he decides to understand the root cause of the system, which turns out to be exploitation of power by upper class people.
The film ends on a mysterious note, which can be interpreted as offering hope. Did Goreng succeed in breaking the system? The answer is open to the audience’s interpretation!
The sequel brings back new characters, adding a different dynamic to the power play. Will the new leads follow the right path like Goreng, or will they have a different view of the system?
The cast of The Platform 2
Milena Smit (The Snow Girl), Hovik Keuchkerian (Money Heist), Natalia Tena (Game of Thrones) and Oscar Jaenada (Luis Miguel: The Series) star in the sequel. Directed by Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia and produced by Carlos Juárez, Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia and Raquel Perea of the Basque Films team.
The film’s official synopsis says, “When a mysterious leader imposes his rule on the Platform, a new resident becomes embroiled in a fight against this controversial method of fighting a cruel feeding system.”
It added: “But when eating food on the wrong plate is a death sentence, how far would you be willing to go to save your life?”
Platform 2 arrives on Netflix on October 4.
