‘The change…it’s huge:’ Mindy Kaling shares her opinion on wearing makeup and how it’s evolved over the years

Mindy Kaling loves great glam moments but she can also enjoy a quiet night at home with a bare face. Speaking to People, The Office alum opened up in detail about her tumultuous relationship with makeup, which first started when she was 13 or 14 years old. She acknowledged the emotional uplift makeup can give a person undeniable.

“Living in glamor still never gets old. The change, how it makes me feel about myself, is huge,” she told the outlet. When the occasion calls for glam, for example the Met Gala, “The Met Gala is the time where I really experiment with eyeshadow.”

Clear eyes are usually her favorite as it suits her facial structure, and sometimes she doesn’t mind light eye makeup, but she doesn’t like bright colors. “As I’ve gotten older, it’s a little more ‘less is more’ in terms of colors,” the Never Have I Ever show creator explained.

When she was younger, she loved bright eyeshadow colors – blue, purple, orange, yellow but not anymore. “When I watch a show like Euphoria, I get inspired. But now I can appreciate it without even trying it myself.” Because she would rather relax with her kids than get her face painted with colors any day!

Kaling, who is mom to Katherine (aka Kit), 6, Spencer, 4, and Anne, 7 months, loves indulging in a skin-care routine, ditching the glamor and enjoying down time with her kids . “I have three young children who are 6 and under, so for me, I really enjoy the makeup-free moment,” she told the outlet.

The Mindy Project actress is taking better care of her skin in her 40s than she did in her 30s. Recently, she invested in a skincare brand called Lion’s Paw as it helped her solve her problem of hyperpigmentation. “I wasn’t really that interested in skin care until I was 40,” she admits. But now she is dedicated to 50% skin care and 50% makeup. “That makes it really fun to come to Sephora, where both of those things are there,” Kaling said.
