In short

  • Censor Board cuts 33 second romantic view from ‘Superman’
  • Similarly, many shots were cut from ‘Thunderbolts’ and ‘F1’.
  • Fans criticized the board for double standards on social media

The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has come on fire to cut a 33 -second scene from James Gun’s latest ‘Superman’ film, which has a romantic moment among Superman played by David Karenswate and Lois Lane, painted by Rechal Broson. Released on July 11, 2025, the film was given the U/A certificate after CBFC removed as a “erotic scene”. This decision has provoked important debate on social media, in which many standards raise questions on the stability of the board.

What is controversy?

The controversial decision focuses around the suitability of the visual for the U/A13+ rating, which is aimed at audiences above 13 years old with the guidance of the parents. CBFC argued that the scene was highly erotic and unfair to the young audience, which led to a slight decrease in the film’s runtime, although the final length remains unknown.

However, this decision has strongly criticized fans and audiences who feel that the board is implementing double standards. On the social media platform X, users expressed disappointment over incompatibility to appear, especially when compared to Bollywood films. A user commented, “CBFC cuts a 33-second kiss in Superman, but is a free pass item number one with half-naked dancers and vulgar songs? What is the argument?”

In addition to the kissing view, CBFC also muted many curse words throughout the film. Another view of the dishonesty of eight-second dishonesty was trimmed and replaced with a two-second shot.

This has discussed the inconsistent standards of the board, with critics noted that similar censorship does not apply to domestic film constructions. Another user on X said, “What’s wrong with the Censor Board of India? He cut the kiss between Clarke and Lois. What kind of overseasative Moran sensor board is running? You think Indian viewers cannot handle kissing?

The decision has provoked allegations of cultural prejudice, with several questions why Hollywood films have intimate scenes, while Bollywood’s desired song-and-dance numbers. A social media commentator wrote, “Why is there a problem between Superman and Lois Lane, but Bollywood’s item number is fine for children with stimulating moves?”

One user wrote, “Like converting the middle finger emoji into a fistbump emoji in the film ‘F1’, which completely changed the meaning and confused the audience. CBFC, Grow Up (SIC).”

how did it start?

The controversy follows a recent incident, where CBFC converted a mid -finger emoji into a fist emoji in the film ‘F1’, acting by Brad Pitt, which criticized for changing the desired meaning. Similary, five derogatory words – ‘A*’, ‘Ahole’, ‘DKS’, ‘B ** H’ and ‘Priq’ – Maravel were muted by ‘Thandarbolts’.

Such tasks have made calls to review CBFC guidelines to ensure frequent applications in all films regardless of the original.

As the debate continues, CBFC has not yet publicly commented on criticism. The board is checking how it balances cultural values with cinematic expressions, especially in the context of international films.

Both films are currently running in theaters.
