The Punjabi film Sardar G3 on Friday collected more than USD 500K (Rs 4.50 crore) from the foreign market with a record-breaking opening in Pakistan. This is the most opening day for Punjabi film so far; However, two films, which are ahead of Jat and Juliet 3 and taken to Jatta 3, were released on Thursday in the middle of a week. While comparing Friday-to-Friday, both those titles improved Sardar G3, making it the third best inauguration for a Punjabi film.
Neru Bajwa, starring Diljit Dosanj, was to be released in India due to the ongoing tension between India and Pakistan, featuring Pakistani actress Hania Aamir. While Diljit is facing criticism in India to cast a Pakistani actress, the controversy has increased the appeal of the film in Pakistan and Pakistani migrant abroad.
In Pakistan, the film earned PKR 3.35 crore (USD 120K) on Friday, the first day for an Indian film, defeating Sultan almost a decade ago. The top market for the film was Canada with CAD 195K, a good start, but Jat and Juliet 3’s CAD 302K Opening Day and CAD 380K had a good start compared to Friday. The UAE and the UK witnessed a strong start, ahead of Jat and Juliet 3, with their big packed migrants.
Overseas box office for the film can see this, but the loss of the domestic market, not only dramatic but potentially non-drainage, is a major setback.
