Talking with Bloomberg, Samsung’s mobile president, Won-Joon Choi unveiled the company’s plan to counter the upcoming competition at the foldable market, especially Apple.
Listen to the story

In short
- Samsung confirmed that it is open to many AI assistants beyond Google’s Gemini
- The chairman of Samsung’s mobile says that even though business tariffs arise risk, it is confident of its global manufacturing flexibility.
- Apple’s first foldable is estimated to hit the market next year
As the foldable smartphone wars are hot, Samsung is taking its biggest opponent to the ring for this time. Apple’s first folding iPhone is widely rumored to be on the horizon, but Samsung insisted that it was not amazed. In a new interview with Bloomberg, the chairman of Samsung’s mobile, Won-Joon Choi made it clear that the Korean veterans were confident in the beginning of their heads.
He said, “We have been doing this for many years, and we have stored and knows a lot of techniques.
Choi’s comments come as Samsung reveals the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7, its most sophisticated foldables to date, in a market where competition from Chinese brands is ever increasing. On the other hand, Apple’s first foldable is estimated to debut in 2026 next year. While nothing has been confirmed, we have reported a lot of evidence which shows that Apple is working on its foldable.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 in-House with Acinos processor
This year’s Galaxy Z Flip 7 is also a milestone for Samsung: this is the company’s first fold to use the in-house exinos processor. When the company chose that chip, Choi said that there is no brand loyalty when it comes to silicon. “We have a rigid process when raising a chipset,” he said. “We look at performance, power consumption and other appropriate aspects of consumer requirements.”
Will there be a flip stick with an exinos 2600 next year? He, Choi indicated, still unspecified: Samsung “will consider every option.”
Aye and it’s not just Gemini
And then, of course, AI was. You cannot conduct a technical interview these days without it.
Samsung’s latest phones already bend on Google’s Gemini AI for a series of smart features, but Choi made it clear that the future is not unique.
“Mithun will not be the only AI assistant we’re going to integrate with Galaxy,” he teased. “We are going to integrate many AI assistants and AI agents with this structure that we have created. It can be anything, as long as these AI agents are competitive, and AI agents can provide the best user experience, we are open to any idea. We are talking to many vendors. I am going to (Galaxy).
It was pressurized whether it means that the partnership with companies like Perplexity or Patiped Maker Openai, Choi just smiled and said that “anyone” is on the table. Nevertheless, with a large signal that Samsung will have a lot to say around the Galaxy S26 launch, it seems that already has cooking deals.
Choi shut down the conversation with his vision for the future of the mobile: “smartphone as the Central Hub for AI.”
Tariff and Business Politics
Then the conversation smartphone business: Another storm hanging on the trade policy transferred to the cloud. New rules can see that equipment manufactured in the United States was not slapped with 25 percent tariffs.
At this, Choi was deliberately cautious, stating that Samsung’s global access provides a security trap. “Samsung has several manufacturing facilities in major areas around the world,” he said. This gives the company “very flexibility” to transfer production as required. Speaking directly to the threat of US tariff, he said, “There are a lot of uncertainty,” but Samsung is working to ensure that products bound to the US market can be collected in “many places”.
For now, Samsung can keep its card closed, but with rivals circling, and apple prepared to bounce, next year is one of the most interesting in foldables so far.
