Veteran screenwriter Salim Khan recently discussed his interfaith marriage with Salma Khan in an interview on The Invincibles talk show with his son Arbaaz Khan. During the conversation, he recalled the beginning of his relationship with Salma Khan.

Salim said that before the affair, he had expressed his desire to meet Salma’s parents because he felt it was improper to hide their meetings. “Before the affair, I told Salma that I want to meet your parents because meeting and hiding is a wrong thing. So when I went to her house, I felt that all Maharashtrians from India were present there (laughter). I was very nervous seeing so many people,” he recalled.

Salim Khan said that Salma’s father initially expressed concern about their different religions, but Salim assured him that religion would not be a problem. “My father-in-law told me that I am a good boy but religion is the problem. I was 24 years old at that time. I told him then, ‘Doctor sahab, your daughter and I may have 1760 problems He said, “Doctor, I may have 1760 problems with your daughter, but religion will not be one of them.”

Later they went and got their marriage registered but Salma’s father did not accept them or visit them for ten years. “He came for the first time after Sohail was born. He saw us and went away,” she said.
